What is SPECT? It is an acronym for Single Photon Emission
Computerized Tomography. SPECT is a sophisticated nuclear medicine study that
looks directly at cerebral blood flow and indirectly at brain activity (or
metabolism). The brain SPECT study can see into the deeper areas of the brain
with far greater clarity and show what CAT scans and MRIs cannot – how the
brain actually functions.
SPECT helps provide answers to mental health problems and helps clinicians ask better and more targeted questions, such as about ADHD/ADD, addictions, head injuries, alzheimer's, depression, violence, anxiety, toxic exposure and past emotional traumas. Imaging plus detailed histories help us better understand your brain, so treatment can be individually tailored, rather than just diagnosing and treating vague diagnostic categories such as depression or ADHD. More information prevents clinicians from prescribing the wrong treatments, such as unnecessarily stimulating an already overactive brain or calming one that is underactive.
The Washington Post recently did an in-depth piece on The Amen Clinics and SPECT and ABC World News Tonight with Diane Sawyer called Dr. Amen, Dr. Annibali's colleague, a modern day Freud. Learn more about The Amen Clinics and brain SPECT at www.amenclinics.com.
